Café Carmel begins June with a celebration of the egg and keeps the party going with plenty of sweet treats

June 2023 Celebrations

Packed with protein and loaded with possibilities, the humble egg has been a staple of the human diet for millennia.

It even has its own day. June 3 is National Egg Day, an opportune time to celebrate this perfectly packaged food — and an egg-cellent day to practice your egg puns.

National Egg Day

With a varied breakfast-brunch menu, Café Carmel chef-owner Sarah Cook reminds her customers all the egg is cracked up to be. From her decadent French toast to the loaded breakfast burrito and a variety of baked goods, there are many eggs-quisite choices that highlight the wondrous egg.

The most popular egg item on the Café Carmel is the eggs Benedict. Popularized in New York City in the 1800s, by tradition, this famous dish consists of two halves of an English muffin, each topped with ham or Canadian bacon, a poached egg, and rich, egg-based hollandaise sauce.

Café Carmel’s Eggs Benedict stays close to the original version, using thinly sliced ham and a layer of fresh greens such as arugula or pea shoots.

A UK transplant who has spent her life developing a passion for cooking, baking, and celebrations, Cook targets special June dates in her cozy cafe in Carmel-by-the-Sea:

Here’s what else is happening at the cafe in June:

National Cheese Day

National Cheese Day (June 4):

On average, each American consumes roughly 40 pounds of cheese each year. Café Carmel transforms the traditional grilled cheese into a grilled panini, and diners love the rich, gooey treasure inside.

Chocolate Ice Cream Day

National Chocolate Ice Cream Day (June 7):

According to surveys, 96 percent of Americans eat ice cream, and the most popular flavor is chocolate, followed by vanilla and butter pecan. Café Carmel scoops Marianne’s, the local creamery from Santa Cruz. Ice cream lovers can stop by the cafe from 2-5 p.m. on June 7 for a scoop of Marianne’s chocolate ice cream and get a second scoop for free!

National Peanut Butter Cookie Day

National Peanut Butter Cookie Day (June 12):

This cookie originated in the United States, its creation dating back to the 1910s. Café Carmel specializes in this treat, and on June 12 customers can buy six peanut butter cookies and get the seventh for free.

Cupcake Lovers Day

Cupcake Lover’s Day (June 13):

The number 13 couldn’t get any luckier! On this day, Café Carmel’s 13th customer will receive a free cupcake. How sweet is that?

Open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Café Carmel offers breakfast, lunch, and brunch, with takeout available through its online ordering platform.
